NewsA J Park Wins Plain English Award11 Oct 2006Intellectual property law firm A J Park won the “Plain English Champion – Best Organisation” award at the Writemark Plain English Awards 2006 held in Wellington on 6 October 2006. The award recognises A J Park’s commitment to implementing a plain English culture in the firm and improving business writing in New Zealand. “We are proud that our leadership position extends beyond providing specialist intellectual property advice” says Greg Arthur, A J Park’s managing partner. “The award confirms that we are also at the leading edge of plain English communication with our clients” he says. The Writemark awards were judged by an independent panel of experts including Consumers’ Institute Chief Executive, David Russell. The awards were open to any organisation that could provide evidence of a successful campaign to create an organisation-wide plain English culture. In 2005, A J Park committed itself to a plain English project. The goal of the project was ‘to make plain English the way we write at A J Park’. “A J Park set out on this journey to improve our service quality to clients through clear, concise communication” says Arthur. “Our specialist area of law is based on technical subject matter and processes. We recognised how important it was to move away from traditional legal writing to plain English writing for the benefit of our clients.”
