AJ Park Law Limited, Auckland
Jessica applies her knowledge of intellectual property and her international experience to help clients protect their trade marks and brands around the world.
Jessica specialises in the protection and enforcement of trade marks and related intellectual property (IP) rights. She has a special interest in genetics and medical innovations, and her clients operate in areas as diverse as natural and therapeutic products, health, life sciences, medical technology, agriculture and FMCG.
As well as providing her clients with strategic advice on trade marks and brand protection, and managing their global trade mark portfolios, Jessica carries out clearance searching and helps file and prosecute their trade marks in New Zealand and abroad. She also assists with dispute resolution, opposition and infringement issues.
Jessica has degrees in law and science (majoring in genetics) from the University of Otago. With a passion for bio ethics, she has the knowledge and experience to understand the more technical aspects of medical and genetics-based IP.
Before joining AJ Park in late 2014, Jessica worked for another New Zealand IP law firm. She then moved to the West Coast of the US for 18 months to gain experience with a Los Angeles IP law firm.
The United States is a key market for many of our clients. Working there gave me useful insights into approaches taken in the US and a good understanding of the North American IP landscape. Consequently, I can help clients who may have issues in the US and advise them on the merits of pursuing IP protection in this region.
Jessica returned to New Zealand in early 2018 after working in AJ Park’s Sydney office for three years, where she gained valuable knowledge of Australian IP. She is qualified to practice across Australia and New Zealand. Jessica has also worked in general legal practice, including commercial and property law, which has given her an understanding of some of these issues facing businesses.
Personable and with good interpersonal skills, Jessica enjoys working in a team and collaborating with people within their business and across their broader IP rights. She gains huge satisfaction from helping her clients achieve the best outcomes and protection for their brands.
