Role type: Patent Executive

Join the brilliant minds protecting the world's brightest ideas.

AJ Park is recognised as having one of the top specialist teams of intellectual property (IP) experts in the world. Our clients range from start-ups and small to medium enterprises, to publicly listed multinationals, government, and research institutes across 130 countries.

We are seeking an individual who is inspired by new concepts and inventions to come and work with our team of IP experts and help protect, build and grow some of the world’s most exciting engineering ideas and innovations.

Right now, we have an entry level position in our Wellington patents team that will enable you to utilise your degree in mechatronics, physics or mechanical engineering and apply this knowledge to the specialist field of patents.  A legal background is not necessary.

The work offers an interesting and challenging mix of technical and legal issues. It requires a natural aptitude for understanding and working with technical subject matter and an analytical and meticulous approach.

You will initially be working with and learning from experienced patent attorneys in IP work, including assessing client design proposals, advising as to patentability and IP strategy, advising whether third party rights may be relevant, and preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications in New Zealand, Australia and internationally.

You’ll join an acclaimed firm awarded ‘Specialist IP Firm of the Year’ in the New Zealand Law Awards, and work alongside people who have received numerous accolades for their work.

AJ Park has an enviable reputation in the market and is a great place to work. We have a strong people-focused culture and were named in NZ Lawyer’s inaugural Employer of Choice 2020 report listing the 25 top-ranking legal organisations in New Zealand in terms of overall employee experience. We were also awarded ‘Excellence’ in the ‘Legal Personnel Employer of Choice’ category of the New Zealand Law Awards 2020.

If you’d like to work in a supportive environment that places a strong emphasis on work/life balance, career development and professional growth, take this opportunity to join our award-winning team of IP specialists.
