Katie assists clients in patent matters in New Zealand, Australia and overseas. She is passionate about solving problems in creative ways.
Katie specialises in the areas of life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and environmental chemistry. She has experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, patent searching, and providing advice on patent validity and infringement.
Katie’s previous experience includes working on innovation and entrepreneurship policy in the public sector and on intellectual property litigation and patent/trademark prosecution in the private sector in Canada. She also worked at a multinational agrochemical company in Germany in the computer modeling of agrochemicals in the environment and in technology intelligence and evaluation.
In her spare time, Katie enjoys exploring the great outdoors.

The new Fijian Trade Marks Act 2021, Patents Act 2021 and Designs Act 2021 introduces some welcomed updates. It has been some time since these acts were updated, in fact 88 years for the Trade Marks Act, and these changes are expected to modernise the way trade marks, patents and designs are treated in Fiji.
