Richard advises clients across various sectors on brand protection, from the initial stages of selecting a trade mark to obtaining local and international protection, as well as enforcement and portfolio management. He has extensive experience across various sectors, including pharmaceuticals, consumer electronics, emerging technologies, fashion, and luxury goods, with particular expertise in retail, apparel, and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG).
Experience
Richard began his career at a specialist intellectual property firm in Wellington, New Zealand. In 2011, he relocated to the United Kingdom and joined the IP team at a leading full-service European firm, where he provided guidance on trade mark protection and enforcement, portfolio management, design rights, and IP disputes. In 2020, he transitioned to the in-house legal team at Tesco, the UK’s largest grocery retailer. While there, he was involved in a high-profile trade mark infringement case before the Court of Appeal and advised the business on all aspects of IP.

Beyond work
Outside of work, Richard enjoys spending time with his young family, rediscovering New Zealand, and playing sports, although he spends more time watching them these days.
