Alecia has worked in intellectual property for over 14 years. As AJ Park's international filing manager, she deals with enquiries around the costs and information needed to file a patent or design application in New Zealand, Australia or the Pacific Island region.
It’s a role that involves reviewing and filing patent and design applications in New Zealand and Australia for the firm’s leading international organisations. Alecia also assists the patent team by making sure all clients’ special instructions are maintained and followed, and by preparing and recording patent assignments.
Since joining AJ Park as her first job out of high school, she’s come to understand just how vital IP protection is for any project or company.
I love the fast-paced turnaround my role entails and the variety of interesting subject matter we come across on a daily basis. It’s great to work with international clients and associates who have an excellent level of attention to detail. It’s a vital factor in ensuring that the best possible patent and design applications can be filed.
Providing fast and accurate advice is a cornerstone of Alecia’s role. She knows that time can be of the essence to AJ Park clients seeking specific information around protecting their intellectual property, and she’ll move heaven and earth to ensure they get timely advice.
Committed to AJ Park and its values, Alecia is motivated and hard-working, but brings a friendly, relaxed manner to her dealings with clients and her colleagues.
'I’m really proud to be able to say that I’ve been working at the same firm for nearly 15 years, progressing through different roles and levels of responsibility, and that I still love working here! I’ve spent over half my life with this great firm.'
Alecia says AJ Park chemical patent attorney Jo Shaw has been a wonderful mentor to her.
'Jo’s taught me—and continues to teach me—that hard work and going above and beyond are important, and it helps create a sense of belonging and enjoyment in your job. I attribute my motivation and hard-working attitude to what I have learnt working with Jo.'
