Ben Sullivan

Ben plays a proactive role in helping clients to protect, develop and enforce their brand portfolios.


Ben advises on all aspects of strategic trade mark and branding matters in New Zealand and overseas, including:

  • freedom to market analyses
  • national/international filing strategies
  • application prosecution
  • opposition, revocation and infringement matters
  • maintenance and enforcement of trade mark portfolios (contentious and non-contentious)
  • copyright issues
  • domain names
  • counterfeiting.

Ben also advises clients on ancillary intellectual property issues such as passing off, New Zealand consumer legislation (Fair Trading Act), Major Events Management Act, various commercial issues (licensing, franchising) as well as product labelling, advertising and brand protection issues.


Ben has experience dealing with local and international clients across a number of industries:

  • pharmaceuticals
  • clothing and fashion
  • luxury goods
  • IT/software
  • entertainment and media.

Previous work

Prior to joining AJ Park, Ben worked at a large intellectual property law firm in New Zealand. Before settling in New Zealand, Ben completed an internship working for a boutique law firm in Milan, Italy, specialising in intellectual property and European Community law.

Ben is currently studying towards his patent attorney qualifications.
