AJ Park is saddened by news of the recent passing of Sir Thomas Gault

AJ Park is saddened by news of the recent passing of The Rt Hon Sir Thomas Munro Gault, KNZM, QC. 
 
Sir Thomas was a partner of AJ Park in the 1960s and through the 70s. He began practising as a barrister sole in 1981, was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1984, and took his first appointment to the bench as a Judge in the High Court in 1987.  In recognition of his services to the judiciary, Sir Thomas was made a Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2001. He accepted re-designation of his DCNZM to a Knight of the Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2009.
 
Managing partner, Damian Broadley, said 'On behalf of us all at AJ Park, we convey our condolences to Sir Thomas' family, friends and colleagues. Sir Thomas was instrumental in helping to move AJ Park forward during his tenure with the firm in the 1960s and 70s, and we're proud of the significant contribution he made both to our firm, and to the New Zealand judicial system during his long and esteemed career.'
 
Former colleagues of Sir Thomas remember him fondly. Chairman of Partners, John Hackett said 'It is very sad to hear of Tom's passing, but a life well-lived. He'll be remembered for his incredible intellect and very clinical approach to the law.'
