Expertise
Vern is a Patent Engineer in AJ Park’s Engineering and IT team. He works with innovators and businesses to help identify, protect and commercialise intellectual property (IP), particularly in engineering and technology-related fields. Vern assists with patentability assessments, prior art searching, patent drafting and patent prosecution in New Zealand and overseas.
With a particular interest in robotics, automation, manufacturing technologies and mechanical systems, Vern enjoys working with innovative technologies and helping clients develop effective IP strategies to support their commercial objectives.
Experience
Before joining AJ Park, Vern worked as Patent Examiner with the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), specialising in robotics and mechanical technologies. This experience provides him with valuable insight into patent examination processes and IP protection strategies. He was also recognised as an International Talent Reserve by the CNIPA, highlighting his ability to support bilingual IP filings in Mandarin Chinese and English.
Vern has completed the European Patent Office (EPO) IPC/CPC Training Program which provided him with the capability to confidently conduct international patent searches.
Beyond work
Outside of work, Vern enjoys sports, cooking and spending time with his family. Having recently relocated to Auckland, he is enjoying New Zealand and discovering new places around the country.
