Australia's Raising the Bar amendments commence

Article  \  15 Apr 2013

The Intellectual Property Laws Amendment (Raising the Bar) Act 2012 comes into affect today, 15 April 2013.

This is the most significant amendment to Australia's intellectual property laws since the Patents Act 1990.

The Act amended the Australian patent legislation making many changes that may make it harder to get a patent in Australia. The changes will apply to patent applications where a request for examination has not been filed before today (15 April).

The Act also made changes to the trade mark system, particularly in relation to trade mark oppositions.
