New trade mark scam operating in New Zealand

Article  \  10 Feb 2017

We have become aware of what appears to be a new trade mark scam operating in New Zealand. Letters on the letterhead of IPTP International Patent & Trademark Publications are being sent to trade mark owners. These letters advise the recipient that the International Bureau of the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) has received a trade mark application, and are advised they should pay a registration fee for publication in the International Patent & Trademark Publications Database.

The International Patent & Trademark Publications Database is not an official publication.

What should you do?

If you have filed your trade marks with us, AJ Park manages the deadlines to pay official fees. If you are unsure, please send the letter you have received through to your attorney at AJ Park.

Before paying any fee requests, double check who is asking you for it. Take a minute to look up the name of the correct authority. And, if in doubt, ask us. It’s what we are here for.

Don’t pay anything yourself without first checking with us.
