In this soundbite video, AJ Park principal Amanda Griffiths gives a quick intro to the new trade mark laws in China.

A lot of the focus on the new laws was to try and clamp down on these trade mark squatters. So, one of the laws was to make it easier to establish a bad faith relationship if there had been a commercial, contractual or a business relationship between the two parties.

The new laws have also clamped down on trade mark agents and lawyers who knowingly assist squatters in filing applications but also who knowingly assist squatters in negotiating with owners who are trying to get their trade marks back and trying to sell the marks to these owners for exorbitant prices. So that’s a really good sign.
