News  \  27 Jun 2018

We are always very proud to be recognised by prestigious international directories as a leading choice for intellectual property protection and enforcement in New Zealand. Here’s a wrap-up of the recent accolades AJ Park has received.

IAM Patent 1000

For the seventh year running, Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) has ranked AJ Park as ‘gold’ in the annual IAM Patent 1000.

The IAM Patent 1000 is the world’s leading patent practitioners’ guide. Firms and individuals in the gold band are those that attract the most positive comments from sources. IAM identifies them as the ‘crème de la crème’.

In the commentary, IAM referred to AJ Park as an ‘Australasian IP sensation’ hosting New Zealand’s largest patent team. Client quotes included ‘AJ Park works efficiently and to a high standard whatever the instruction’ and that our prosecution practice ‘carefully aligns its attentive service with clients’ overall patent strategies’.

Seven AJ Park principals were highlighted in this year’s IAM Patent 1000, demonstrating the depth and breadth of our firm's expertise.

Michael Brown’s sound advice on patentability, clear explanation of complex IP issues and harmonious partnership with clients allows them to focus on the most profitable areas of their business.’

Matt Adams is a guardian for several large computer corporations and a dab hand at negotiating complex licensing agreements.’

‘With a keen eye for detail, Anton Blijlevens drafts top-notch applications’ and ‘he’s always available to answer queries and comments, but potential hurdles are far less likely to arise when Anton’s drafted the patent.’

‘For manufacturing companies, tenacious IP strategist Greg West-Walker is a guiding light.’

Anton Gibson provides life sciences outfits with commercially minded portfolio management and takes a hard line in enforcement matters too.’

‘The side’s “sterling” litigation practice is anchored by Kim McLeod and Kate McHaffie. McLeod takes the lead in enforcement efforts and is au fait with multi-jurisdictional litigations, having spent time in Hong Kong as an IP solicitor. A patent attorney qualified to practise law in New Zealand and New South Wales, McHaffie brings complex Trans-Tasman disputes to efficient conclusions. She boasts substantial experience litigating for global healthcare, manufacturing and telecoms operations.’

IAM Strategy 300

In addition to our IAM Patent 1000 listing, we’re delighted to announce that AJ Park principals Anton Blijlevens, Anton Gibson and Mark Hargreaves have once again been named world-leading IP strategists in the 2018 IAM Strategy 300 - The World’s Leading IP Strategists. This unique publication is an ‘annual listing of individuals with an established track record in developing and rolling out world-class IP value creation programmes’.

An authority on global IP leaders, IAM conducts in-depth research across North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific region to produce the list, which is limited to 300 individuals worldwide. This extensive research process involves face-to-face and telephone interviews, as well as email exchanges, with senior members of the global IP community. Those who appear on the list are regarded as ‘best-in-class’ when it comes to helping business and IP owners gain maximum value from their intellectual assets.

IP Stars

We are proud to once again top the New Zealand rankings in the latest Managing IP global survey of leading IP firms and practitioners (IP Stars).

AJ Park is the only tier 1 firm for New Zealand in all four major categories: patent contentious, patent prosecution, trade mark contentious, and trade mark prosecution. We are also listed as a ‘recommended’ firm for copyright.
