Loren Tung

Senior Associate \ AJ Park IP Limited, Auckland

Loren is a senior associate in AJ Park’s patent engineering and IT team. Based in the firm’s Auckland office, he works closely with start-ups and SMEs, particularly those developing new technologies, to protect and commercialise their inventions. Loren brings a global perspective to his role, with a strong focus on the US and Chinese patent systems.

Expertise

Loren advises clients on all aspects of patent law, including patentability assessments, freedom-to-operate (FTO) opinions, and global filing strategies. He is highly experienced in drafting and prosecuting patent applications across a wide range of technical fields, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, consumer electronics, medical imaging, and vehicle filtration systems. His practice also extends to contentious IP matters, including oppositions, litigation, and international arbitration.

Experience

A US-qualified patent attorney, Loren has more than 18 years of intellectual property experience in both private practice and in-house roles. He has successfully represented clients before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), the US District Court (Eastern District of Texas), and the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC). Known for his detail-oriented approach, Loren has led patent teams, overseen junior attorneys, and written numerous patent opinions to support business-critical decisions.

Beyond work

When he’s not working with clients or mentoring colleagues, Loren enjoys basketball and golf—on the court, on the green, or online. He’s an avid music fan with a taste for all genres, and enjoys watching (and practicing) stand-up comedy. Most of all, he loves spending time with his family, exploring local food spots, and training his toy maltipoo, Nugget, to speak.
