Shijie is an associate in AJ Park’s Engineering and IT team in Auckland. He brings extensive experience in private practice and in-house roles, together with a strong engineering and legal background, to deliver commercially aligned IP solutions to clients.

Expertise

Shijie advises clients on a full spectrum of patent matters, with a focus on patent drafting, prosecution, and design applications. He also provides services in patent portfolio management, patent searching, freedom-to-operate analysis, and IP due diligence. His experience further includes IP licensing and transactions, IP litigation, technology import and export, and trade-secret protection.

Shijie has worked across a wide range of technical industries, including vehicles, medical devices, home appliances, and robotics. His postgraduate studies in aeronautics and aerospace engineering also enable him to assist clients in highly technical fields.

Experience

Shijie has 13 years of experience in the IP profession in China. He spent seven years as a Chinese patent attorney in two major IP firms and later worked in the commercial IP team of a prominent international law firm. He subsequently served as an IP counsel at a multinational pharmaceutical and diagnostics company, where he supported IP protection for emerging technologies.

More recently, as the IP head of a start-up spun out from Imperial College London, Shijie led a team handling various IP matters and gained deep insight into delivering tailored and effective IP strategies aligned with a company’s business needs.

Beyond work

Outside of work, Shijie enjoys spending time with his wife and son, and has a passion for swimming, hiking and cycling. He is currently enthusiastic about sailing.

Shijie is fluent in both Mandarin and Shanghainese.
