Expertise
Eric is a patent law expert with substantial global practical knowledge and skills in significant jurisdictions, including Singapore and the ASEAN region. He delivers prosecution and portfolio management for various clients, including research institutes, universities, multinational corporations, and (fin)tech and decacorn companies.
His work involves providing advice, preparing technical and legal documents on IP rights, filing and prosecuting patent applications, providing opinions on potential patent infringement, client advisory (such as filing strategies), international patent portfolio management, and relationship management duties.
Drawing from his academic studies and postgraduate research in photonics, Eric has technical knowledge in optics, optoelectronics, glass materials science and laser technology. His expertise also extends to electronics, microfluidics, nanotechnology, display devices, semiconductors, memory devices, (bio)sensors, circuits, biomedical devices, mechanical devices, computer-implemented inventions, and business method-related inventions.
Experience
Eric has held both in-house and private practice IP roles. Taking an international lens to his work, his colleagues include patent attorneys from Singapore, the US, the UK and Europe, which has helped shape his patent practice and inculcate meticulousness and thoroughness in his work.
In addition to Eric's broad skillset, he has experience filing and prosecuting trade mark and design applications in Singapore.
Before his IP career, Eric worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in nanotechnology and laser technology at the London Centre for Nanotechnology at University College London (UK) and then at the International Innovation Centre at Kyoto University (Japan).
Eric is multilingual and speaks English, Chinese/Mandarin and Malay. He currently belongs to the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) in the UK and the Association of Singapore Patent Attorneys (ASPA) in Singapore.
